My art consists of predominantly biblical themes drawn straight from the Word of God with the purpose of illustrating the scriptures. It is important to me that the average person, even those with no theological knowledge, really understands the heart of God’s Word. After reading a particular Bible verse, I try to see it for what it really is a living and loving Word from a living and loving God. Moreover, people tend to forget that Bible characters were actual people with real emotions, bodies, facial expressions, doubts, fears, etc. How did David look dancing before the Ark of the Covenant? How much fear was in Adam and Eve’s eyes as they his from God in the Garden of Eden? How unrecognizable was Christ as he hung from the cross? These are questions that I aspire to answer as I develop my work.
My work has recently been focused on more traditional art. In the future, however I aspire to break into graphic novels and reach a younger generation through a combination of art and literature. The visual dynamics comics mixed with the “words between the words” of scripture will fall perfectly into my vision of manifesting the Bible so that all mankind can see and understand it clearly.
Biography: Tony Zachery is a multidisciplinary artist that uses a combination of graphite, acrylic paints, oil pastels, and chalk/charcoal to create works of art that illustrate the gospel of Christ and other biblical themes. He started his work (and coined the phrase) as a Christian evangelical artist in 2005 with his debut piece, “Calvary”, done in oil pastels. His pieces have been featured in exhibitions including the 2006 Georgia Regents Gallery, where he was recognized for his outstanding work. He has exhibited his work in galleries, churches, and artistic publications throughout Georgia. In addition, Tony’s works are currently displayed in private collections in England, Germany, and Australia. In his work Tony often uses contemporary ideas combined with strong traditional technique. He aspires to pass on his knowledge by teaching in a school soon to be started by his fiancée and taking on apprentices in an art studio. He continues to explore new ways to share the heart of the scripture with all those who have an eye to see it. Tony lives in Savannah, Georgia with his church family.
